English is a West
Germanic language originating in England, and the first language for most
people in Australia, Canada, the Commonwealth Caribbean, Ireland, New Zealand,
the United Kingdom and the United States of America (also commonly known as the
Anglosphere). It is used extensively as a second language and as an official
language throughout the world, especially in Commonwealth countries such as
India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and South Africa, and in many international
organisations.
Modern English is sometimes described as the global lingua franca. English is
the dominant international language in communications, science, business,
aviation, entertainment, radio and diplomacy. The influence of the British
Empire is the primary reason for the initial spread of the language far beyond
the British Isles. Following World War II, the growing economic and cultural
influence of the United States has significantly accelerated the spread of the
language. On an average school day approximately one billion people are
learning English in one form or another.
A working knowledge of English is required in certain fields, professions, and
occupations. As a result over a billion people speak English at least at a
basic level. English is one of six official languages of the United Nations.
[CHORUS:]
If you had my love
And I gave you all my trust
Would you comfort me
And if somehow you knew that your love would be untrue
Would you lie to me
And call me baby
Now if I gave you me, this is how it's got to be
First of all I won't take you cheatin' on me
Tell me who can I trust if I can't trust in you
And I refuse to let you play me for a fool
You said that we could possibly spend eternity
See that's what you told me (that's what you said)
But if you want me
You have to be fulfilling all my dreams
(If you really want me babe)
[CHORUS]
Said you want my love and you've got to have it all
But first there are some things you need to know
If you want to live
With all I have to give
I need to feel true love
Or it's got to end, yeah
I don't want you
Trying to get with me
And I end up unhappy
(Don't need the hurt and I don't need the pain)
So before I do
Give myself to you
I have to know the truth
(If I spend my life with you)
[CHORUS]
"If I Were A Boy"
[Verse]
If I were a boy
Even just for a day
I’d roll outta bed in the morning
And throw on what I wanted and go
Drink beer with the guys
And chase after girls
I’d kick it with who I wanted
And I’d never get confronted for it.
'Cause they’d stick up for me.
[Chorus]
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I’d be a better man.
I’d listen to her
'Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted
'Cause he’s taken you for granted
And everything you had got destroyed
[Verse]
If I were a boy
I would turn off my phone
Tell everyone it’s broken
So they’d think that I was sleepin’ alone
I’d put myself first
And make the rules as I go
'Cause I know that she’d be faithful
Waitin’ for me to come home (to come home)
[Chorus]
If I were a boy
I think I could understand
How it feels to love a girl
I swear I’d be a better man.
I’d listen to her
'Cause I know how it hurts
When you lose the one you wanted (wanted)
'Cause he’s taken you for granted (granted)
And everything you had got destroyed
[Bridge]
It’s a little too late for you to come back
Say it's just a mistake
Think I’d forgive you like that
If you thought I would wait for you
You thought wrong
[Chorus 2]
But you’re just a boy
You don’t understand
Yeah, you don’t understand, oh
How it feels to love a girl someday
You wish you were a better man
You don’t listen to her
You don’t care how it hurts
Until you lose the one you wanted
'Cause you’ve taken her for granted
And everything you had got destroyed

“Would prefer” es la forma condicional del verbo “prefer”, preferir, por tanto, es “preferiría”
Por otro lado, “would rather” es igual que “would prefer” y, por tanto, también significa “preferiría”.
Ejemplo 1: I would prefer to go out. Preferiría salir.
Ejemplo 2: I'd rather stay here. Yo preferiría quedarme.
Ejemplo 3: She'd prefer dancing. Ella preferiría bailar.
Ejemplo 4: Would you rather sleep or stay awake? ¿Preferirías dormir o permanecer despierto?
IMPORTANTE: Diferencia entre "would prefer" y “would rather”: El verbo que sigue a “would rather” va en infinitivo sin “to”.
Podemos decir:
Ejemplo 1 : I'd rather you spoke in English. Preferiría que hablases (o hablaras) en inglés.
Ejemplo 2: My brother would rather we didn't go home. Mi hermano preferiría que no fuésemos (o fuéramos) a casa.
sujeto +“would rather” + (2) sujeto + past tense
Ejemplo 3: She'd rather you worked.
HAD BETTER / ‘D BETTER (+ (NOT) INFINITIVE)
I'd better go ------> "Mejor me marcho." o "Debería marcharme."
Regla: Observación importante: Al hablar no se suele decir “had”, sino que se contrae, igual que would “I'd, you'd, he'd....” por eso parece “I would better.” Nunca se dice “have better
Ejemplo 1: You'd better come--Va a ser mejor que vengas.
Ejemplo 2: Hadn't you better write to them? ¿No sería mejor que les escribieses?
Ejemplo 3: You'd better do what I told you.
Ejemplo 4. . She'd better leave now.
Ejemplo 5: You'd better study. If you don't you'll have to work. “Es mejor que (deberías) estudies. Si no lo haces tendrás que trabajar”. Este es un especie de mandato un tanto amenazante y obviamente se refiere al futuro, no al pasado.
Ejemplo 6: He'd better do it or I'll be very angry.
Ejemplo 7: I'd better hurry up. "Es mejor que me dé prisa", ó, "Debería darme prisa" Aquí estamos ante una sugerencia que me hago a mi mismo.
Regla: El verbo que sigue a “had better” va siempre en infinitivo, no en -ing
A survey by the Equality Opportunities Commission in the U.K. asked fathers if they would like to stay home to take care of their babies. Many fathers said that they would be happy to be homemakers. In fact, four out of five new fathers said they would be happy to quit work and become homemakers. However, another report found that in only four per cent of families the mother was working full –time while the father was working part-time or was a stay-at-home dad. Estimates suggest that there are over 140,000 stay –at- home dads in the U.S., and over ten million stay-at-home moms. It seems that sex stereotyping has a big influence on us at all stages of life. It affects our views on home life, the subjects we study in school, and the jobs we choose. A separate report found that fewer than 40 percent of girls questioned aged 15 and 16 agreed that boys and girls are treated exactly the same way in families. As for jobs around the home, girls generally help Mom with things such as ironing, cleaning, and washing the dishes. However, boys help with jobs that Dad would normally do, such as household repairs and physical tasks like cutting the grass. In school, fewer girls choose math and science: these are often seen as subjects more for boys. Sex stereotyping also seems to be supported by some schools career counselors. They sometimes advise girls to try traditional careers in nursing and teaching, rather than become scientist or engineers.
